Sunset Beach closed for swimming

Sunset Beach is closed for swimming due to high E. coli levels.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) says that samples of the water near Vancouver’s West End spot exceeded the recommended guidelines.

In its beach water quality report on Friday, the health-care provider says that the E. coli levels are between 404 / 100 mL and 880 / 100 mL.

The recommended levels are below 200 / 100 mLs.

E. coli levels at neighbouring English Bay Beach move between 135 / 100 mL and 313 / 100 mL.

Related:

Kitsilano Beach and Spanish Banks Beach, spots further west along the Burrard Inlet, record lower E. coli levels, currently between 10 / 100 mL and 121 / 100 mL.

Authorities do not restrict people from swimming at those beaches.

Exposing and swallowing water contaminated with high levels of E. coli can cause vomiting, infections, and diarrhea.
