North Van RCMP officer assaulted during traffic stop

On June 12, a North Vancouver RCMP officer was assaulted while conducting a traffic stop on a car that had been excessively speeding.

At about 5 p.m. on Low Level Road, near Kennard Avenue, the officer stopped a black Toyota.

During the stop, the driver attempted to leave the scene prior to being served with documents and did not comply with police direction.

While on the roadside, it is alleged that the driver struck the officer multiple times.

Passerby’s and additional police were needed to take the suspect into custody.

The injured officer was transported to hospital with minor injuries and has been released.The suspect is facing multiple charges including Assaulting a Police officer and Obstruction of a Peace Officer.“This is another reminder of the risk our officers face each day to serve and protect the citizens of North Vancouver,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP.

“Despite the dangers, our officers remain committed to ensuring public safety. We are grateful that our injured officer is recovering, and we appreciate the ongoing support from the community.”
