A new non-profit student residence has opened in downtown Montreal earlier this month.
As of June 1, 269 students have been living in the 168-unit building located at the corner of Ontario Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard.
The UTILE Saint-Laurent was designed specifically for students and is intended to provide housing in a central location close to public transit and other services.

“This is a really important project, we believe, for the neighborhood It’s real close to Quartier Latin, Quartier des spectacles, an area which really stands to benefit from an enhanced presence of the student population,” said Laurent Lévesque, CEO and cofounder of UTILE.
The apartments come fully equipped with appliances such as a refrigerator and stove.
Rent covers internet, electricity and air conditioning. The building also includes shared facilities for residents such as a community room, a laundry room, among others.
UTILE says the project was completed on schedule and within budget.
“(This was an) affordable student housing project that was realized in partnership with Student Society of McGill University, the City of Montreal, the federal government through the Affordable Housing Fund of the CNHC for financing as well as financial participation of the Foyme Mobilier de Solidarité, FTQ,” Lévesque said.
UTILE says the project brings its total number of student tenants across Quebec to more than 1,200.
