Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds to impact Montreal before unsettled weekend

Residents can expect a soggy and stormy end to the week, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds forecast to move through the region beginning Thursday and continuing into the weekend.

Environment And Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is calling for rain throughout Thursday, with total rainfall amounts of 30 to 40 millimetres possible. There is also a risk of thunderstorms during the afternoon.

Winds will increase significantly during the day, starting from the southeast at 30 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h before shifting to the southwest near noon. Southwest winds are expected to strengthen to 50 km/h with gusts reaching 70 km/h by late afternoon.

Despite the unsettled conditions, temperatures will remain mild, with a daytime high of 20 Celsius and a humidex value of 25. The UV index is forecast to reach 3, or moderate.

Rain showers are expected to end late Thursday evening, although skies will remain mainly cloudy overnight with a 30 per cent chance of additional showers. There is also a risk of thunderstorms early in the evening. Southwest winds will continue at 30 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h before temperatures fall to a low of 15 C.

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue Friday. Skies will remain mainly cloudy, with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the morning and early afternoon before more widespread showers develop later in the day. Forecasters are also warning of a risk of thunderstorms late Friday afternoon. Southwest winds will persist at 30 km/h with gusts reaching 50 km/h. The daytime high will reach 20 C, while the UV index climbs to 7, considered high.

Showers are expected Friday night with an overnight low of 14 C.

Wet conditions are forecast to continue into Saturday, with showers throughout the day and a high of 19 C. Additional showers are expected Saturday night, with temperatures dropping to 15 C.

The weather is expected to improve slightly on Sunday. Cloudy skies are forecast with a daytime high of 23 C before clearing overnight. Sunday night’s low is expected to be 15 C.

Monday is shaping up to be the nicest day of the forecast period, with sunny skies and a high of 26 C. However, clouds will increase Monday night, bringing a 60 per cent chance of showers and a low of 15 C.
