One child and one teen were critically injured after being rescued from a fire that tore through an apartment building in Montreal North on Friday afternoon.
The blaze broke out around 4 p.m. in the kitchen of a third-floor apartment on Lacordaire Boulevard, near Henri-Bourassa Boulevard.

Firefighters quickly entered the building and located the child. The child was brought outside and treated by paramedics before being rushed to hospital in critical condition.
A second child, suffered significant burns during the fire. Another person was also injured, although authorities have not released information on the severity of those injuries.
Approximately 50 firefighters responded to the scene and continued battling the blaze into the late afternoon. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In the wake of the incident, the Montreal fire department reminds residents to regularly test their smoke alarms and ensure they are in working order. Officials also stressed the importance of evacuating immediately when an alarm sounds and remaining outside in a safe location while firefighters respond.
