Child seriously injured after e-scooter hits car in Maple Ridge

The Maple Ridge RCMP says it is investigating after a 13-year-old was seriously injured following a collision between an e-scooter and a car Monday evening.

Police say they were called to the area of 232 Street and 124 Avenue around 5 p.m. after reports of a crash involving a child.

“Officers arrived on scene and located a young person lying on the sidewalk suffering from serious injuries,” police said.

“Officers provided initial first aid to the youth before alerting emergency health services. The 13-year-old victim was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.”

According to the RCMP, the child was riding an e-scooter northbound on 232 Street when it hit a parked grey Audi sedan that was attempting to pull into traffic.

The driver remained on-scene and is cooperating on police, and no criminality is suspected, police say.

Mounties say the child was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the Maple Ridge RCMP at 604-463-6251 and refer to file 2026-12023.

The RCMP reminds residents that e-scooter riders must be at least 16 years old.
