Man charged in extortion related investigation in Abbotsford

The BC Provincial Extortion Task Force has charged and arrested one man in relation to an extortion investigation.

In August of 2025, the Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP) conducted a traffic stop while patrolling Surrey. Two loaded handguns were found inside the vehicle.

MVTP shared information regarding the found handguns with other police in the region.

Once the BC Provincial Extortion Task Force was formed in September 2025, they assumed the investigation as a possible relation to extortion related activities.

On June 17, the BC Prosecution Service approved two counts of occupying vehicle with a firearm present against a 22-year-old man.

An arrest warrant was issued, and the man was arrested in Abbotsford on June 23.

He remains in custody, awaiting his next court appearance.

“By maintaining a strong presence in communities and a coordinated, strategic approach to intelligence sharing, we’re able to gather critical information, get guns off the streets and advance investigations,” says Chief Supt. Duncan Pound, Lower Mainland District Assistant District Commander and Operations Officer.
