Police investigating stabbing near Vancouver’s downtown Granville strip

A 20-year-old man was rushed to the hospital on Saturday morning in critical condition after being stabbed in downtown Vancouver.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says that officers responded to the scene at 3:15 a.m. at the intersection of Seymour Street and Nelson Street, near the Granville Street pedestrian zone.

Cst. Darren Wong says that the victim was stabbed multiple times.

“It looked serious. It was multiple stab wounds at this point, so he was rushed to the hospital, and he is now in stable condition,” he told 1130 NewsRadio.

He adds that police have not identified any suspects yet.

“That is still under investigation at this point,” Wong said.

The VPD is asking witnesses to contact police.

Investigators don’t believe that the incident is connected to the FIFA festivities on nearby Granville Street.

“It doesn’t look like it, given the time, 3:15 in the morning; it is fairly early in the morning. So, it’s too hard to say if it’s connected to FIFA or not,” Wong said.
