Cyclist dead after crash with ‘commercial vehicle’ in North Vancouver

A woman in her 60s has died after she was struck by a “commercial vehicle” at the intersection of West 1st Street and MacKay Road in North Vancouver on Monday morning.

Officers responded to the scene at 7:45 a.m., located the woman, and began administering first aid.

She was rushed to the hospital but pronounced deceased shortly after.

Police say the woman was cycling northbound, crossing West 1st Street from the south of the intersection when the collision occurred.

Witnesses told police the vehicle “was making a left turn from West 1st Street onto MacKay Road to travel northbound.”

Reportedly, the vehicle had a green light when it turned onto MacKay Road.

The North Vancouver RCMP, assisted by the team of the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Service (ICARS), is currently on scene, investigating the incident.

“This was a tragic incident resulting in the loss of life,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak.

As of 2 p.m. Monday, the intersection remains closed as police are conducting their investigation.
