Three cars were set on fire in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough of Montreal on Monday night. Police have launched an investigation.
According to the Montreal police (SPVM), witnesses reported around 10 p.m. that parked vehicles were on fire near the intersection of Pierre-De-Coubertin and La Salle avenues, near the Olympic Stadium.
Firefighters were called to the scene. The three vehicles in question were two cars and a sport utility vehicle.
An examination of the scene did not reveal any incendiary materials, but a suspect was reportedly seen setting the vehicles on fire and then fleeing the scene.
The investigation has therefore been transferred to the SPVM’s arson unit.
The three vehicles are considered total losses. They were towed away and will be examined by experts.
Police interviewed witnesses to the incident. Investigators will also attempt to determine whether nearby surveillance cameras captured any relevant footage.
As of Tuesday morning, the SPVM had not reported any arrests in connection with this case.
