19-year-old man was shot, wounded Tuesday night in Montreal

A 19-year-old man suffered “significant injuries” when he was shot Tuesday night in Montreal, in the borough of Ville-Marie. He should still be saved.

Emergency services were notified around 10:40 p.m. that a person had been shot near the intersection of Sherbrooke and Montcalm streets, near La Fontaine Park.

“According to initial information, the victim was on the sidewalk when a suspect fired in his direction,” explained Constable Caroline Chèvrefils, who is a spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

Seriously injured in the “upper body”, but conscious, the young man was transported to a hospital. Doctors believe that his life is not threatened.

The suspect fled before police arrived, so no immediate arrests were made. The SPVM has opened an investigation.

Investigators and forensic identification technicians were to attend the scene to analyze the crime scene, with the assistance of the canine unit.

Witnesses have been met by the police, who will also try to determine if surveillance cameras installed nearby have captured images that could advance their investigation.
