The latest data from the Coroners Service reveals a decline in drug-related deaths for May 2026.
In May 2026, there were 109 reported deaths due to drug toxicity, marking the lowest number since February 2020, averaging about 3.5 deaths per day.
The majority of these deaths in 2026 were among individuals aged between 30 and 59, with males accounting for 76 percent of the fatalities.
Notably, there has been a significant decrease in drug-related deaths among individuals aged 19 to 59 since 2021.
The data shows that most drug-related deaths occurred in the Vancouver Coastal and Fraser health regions.
Furthermore, a large proportion of these deaths, 81 percent, occurred in residences, social and supportive housing, single-room occupancies, and shelters, while 18 percent took place outdoors or in vehicles.
