“$159M Housing Revolution Begins in Montreal’s Saint-Michel: A Major Leap for Affordable Living!”

Construction has officially begun on a significant $159.9 million project to develop affordable housing in Montreal’s Saint-Michel area.

A partnership between federal, provincial, and municipal entities, along with the Black Communities Housing Society, marked the commencement of the Angélique-Latimer Complex during a ceremony on Saint-Michel Boulevard.

Set to deliver a total of 281 housing units, with 230 earmarked as affordable accommodations for families in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension district, the project will also incorporate communal facilities and commercial spaces.

Under the Société d’habitation du Québec’s Rent Supplement Program, as many as 161 households could be eligible, ensuring that qualifying tenants do not exceed 25% of their income on rent.

Quebec Housing Minister Karine Boivin Roy praised the initiative, emphasizing the government’s dedication to expanding affordable housing options and facilitating secure and high-quality living environments for more families. She lauded the collaborative efforts of governmental bodies, municipalities, and community organizations, highlighting the impact of united action in advancing housing solutions.

The Black Communities Housing Society envisions the Angélique-Latimer Complex as the inaugural step in a broader strategy, aiming to introduce 1,500 new housing units across Quebec by 2029.
