A Canadian legal firm specializing in traffic tickets and criminal charges, X-Copper Professional Corporation, recently experienced a data breach. The breach occurred around June 8, 2026, when hackers infiltrated the firm’s computer systems through compromised credentials and malware.
According to an email sent to potentially affected customers, the malware initially limited access to internal data. However, forensic evidence suggests that the attackers may have accessed and extracted files containing personal information. The stolen data includes names, dates of birth, email and postal addresses, driver’s license numbers, and details related to legal matters such as offense specifics, trial dates, and case outcomes.
Although the exact number of individuals impacted by the breach was not disclosed, X-Copper emphasized that there is currently no evidence of the information being misused. Nevertheless, the firm urged affected individuals to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their personal information.
In response to the breach, X-Copper has initiated an external forensic investigation to ascertain the full extent of the incident. Additionally, the firm has bolstered its security measures to prevent similar breaches in the future.
Those potentially affected by the breach are advised to monitor their credit card and bank statements for any unauthorized transactions and regularly check their credit reports for unusual activity.
