Québec Solidaire Rallies Citizens to Combat Soaring Grocery Prices

Québec Solidaire Launches National Campaign to Address Soaring Grocery Costs

Québec Solidaire commenced a significant nationwide mobilization on Saturday to tackle the escalating prices of groceries, as revealed in a party press release.

Ruba Ghazal, spokesperson for Québec Solidaire, made a visit to the 440 market in Laval on Saturday morning. She engaged with shoppers to discuss the rising grocery expenses and listen to their worries.

Numerous members of parliament affiliated with the Solidarity party also journeyed to the area to connect with the local community.

Ghazal emphasized, “Today, we are signaling loudly: the excessive surge in grocery prices must become a focal point in election campaign discussions. Québec Solidaire has been proposing innovative remedies for months to alleviate the financial strain on households. Measures such as capping the profit margins of major supermarket chains, prohibiting unjust business tactics, and establishing a network of public grocery stores are viable options, and Québec Solidaire is the party committed to implementing them with determination and political courage.”

According to the Québec Solidaire press release, the average cost of a grocery basket has surged by 27% since 2021, with families now spending $16,800 annually on food.

A TD Economics report in January 2026 disclosed that grocery prices had surged by over 30% nationwide since 2019.

The mobilization held on Saturday heralds the initiation of a protracted campaign by Québec Solidaire to address this pressing issue, as per the party’s statement.
