Redevelopment to Begin on Route 132 Connecting Saint-Constant and Delson
After years of anticipation and concerns raised by local officials, the revitalization of a stretch of Route 132 linking Saint-Constant and Delson on Montreal’s South Shore is set to kick off.
During a recent visit to Saint-Constant, Premier Christine Fréchette revealed plans to establish a dedicated project office for the transformation of this roadway, which also traverses the town of Sainte-Catherine.
Currently, Route 132 primarily accommodates vehicular traffic with multiple lanes. The upcoming project envisions a major overhaul, turning the area into an urban boulevard featuring bike paths, pedestrian walkways, and designated lanes for public transportation.
The project office will be staffed with urban planning experts, engineers, and other professionals tasked with developing a comprehensive plan outlining projected costs, timelines, and specific routes to be chosen.
The initial phase, focusing on evaluating different proposals, is expected to be completed by 2027, as confirmed by Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility Benoit Charette during a recent press conference.
Highlighting the collaborative nature of the project, Minister of Relations with First Nations and Inuit Ian Lafrenière emphasized the involvement of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake as a key partner.
