Tragedy struck in Scarborough last week when a 91-year-old woman passed away in the hospital due to injuries sustained in a car accident.
The incident took place in the Port Union area, near the intersection of Lawrence Avenue East and Charlottetown Boulevard, just before 4 p.m. on July 13. The elderly woman was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla on Lawrence Avenue East, while a 38-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Rav 4 on Charlottetown Boulevard.
According to the police, the 91-year-old woman experienced a sudden medical issue that led her to run a red light, resulting in a collision with the Rav 4 before crashing into a school building.
She was rushed to the hospital with severe, life-threatening injuries, while the other driver was also taken to a medical facility for minor injuries. Unfortunately, the elderly woman did not survive and passed away in the hospital, as confirmed by the authorities in an update on Sunday.
The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing as the community mourns the loss.
