A tragic incident occurred early Monday morning on Highway 1 in Abbotsford, resulting in one fatality and another individual sustaining serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash.
According to the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD), the collision near Cole Road was reported before 2 a.m., prompting immediate response from law enforcement.
Upon reaching the site, officers discovered a vehicle that had veered off the road and overturned into the median. Both occupants of the vehicle received prompt medical attention at the scene.
Tragically, the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the driver’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
As of 6 a.m., Highway 1 remains shut down in both directions. The westbound lanes are closed between No. 3 Road and Whatcom, while the eastbound lanes are inaccessible between Cole and No. 3 roads.
Authorities are urging motorists to steer clear of the area and find alternative routes to avoid disruptions.
