A truck driver in New Westminster narrowly avoided serious injuries by jumping from his moving vehicle following a crash on Monday, according to the New Westminster Police Department (NWPD).
The NWPD reported that the commercial truck, which was making a delivery in the Holmes and East Columbia streets area, veered off the road and ended up in a wooded area. Dramatic photos from the scene depict the truck lying on its side in pieces, after colliding with a metal railing that pierced the driver’s seat.
Despite the close call, the driver managed to exit the truck before emergency services arrived. BC Emergency Health Services responded to the incident at around 2 p.m., treating one individual at the scene before transporting them to the hospital.
The exact cause of the crash remains unknown, as investigations by authorities are ongoing.
