Construction for the Broadway Subway Project is causing disruptions for commuters in the area.
A section of West Broadway has been shut down to traffic between Alberta and Cambie Streets for the next six months. New signs have been installed to guide motorists through the detour, while crossing guards are stationed at key intersections to assist with traffic flow.
Despite the road closure, most sidewalks in the area remain accessible for pedestrians to use safely.
The closure is necessary for the renovation and removal of the traffic deck to finalize the construction of the Millennium Line segment at Broadway City Hall Station.
Motorists are being redirected temporarily to 8th Avenue between Alberta and Ash Streets, which might pose challenges for shoppers trying to navigate through the construction zone.
Transit services, including buses such as the number 9 and the number 99 B Line, are also affected, with routes diverted to 8th Avenue and bus stops relocated along Broadway.
Commuters are advised by Translink to expect potential delays during this period, a small inconvenience for passengers compared to those stuck in traffic jams.
The anticipated completion date for the new subway line is set for fall 2027.
