Café Saint-Henri has opened a new specialty café on the front courtyard of Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica, with part of the proceeds supporting the landmark’s ongoing restoration.
Called Le Firmament by Café Saint-Henri, the café marks the relocation of the company’s flagship store on Notre-Dame Street West and becomes its 10th location.
The project is a partnership between The Fabrique of Notre-Dame Parish and the Montreal-based coffee roaster. The 28-square-metre café is designed to reflect the Basilica’s architecture and features a nearly 200-year-old stone wall visible inside the space.
“We’re proud to be part of a project that helps preserve this historic site,” said Sébastien Grenache, president of Café Saint-Henri.
Notre-Dame Basilica rector Michel Issa said Café Saint-Henri was chosen because of its strong ties to Montreal and reputation for quality.
Le Firmament is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers a coffee blend created specifically for the Basilica.
