The independent civilian agency responsible for investigating incidents involving deaths or serious injuries has launched an inquiry following the tragic death of a 35-year-old man who fell from a high-rise building in Mississauga this week.
According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Peel Regional Police (PRP) officers responded to a distress call at a condominium on Kingsbridge Garden Circle near Eglinton Avenue West and Hurontario Street around 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, officers reportedly engaged with the man in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully. Unfortunately, the man fell from a high floor during the encounter. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Friday to determine the exact cause of death. Further details regarding the incident have not been disclosed at this time.
The SIU is mandated to investigate situations involving fatalities, serious injuries, allegations of sexual assault, or instances where a firearm has been discharged at an individual.
