Toronto authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with a recent street racing incident near Port Union that occurred just two weeks ago.
According to investigators, a green Lamborghini and a white Mercedes E-Class were engaged in a high-speed race along Highway 2A near Meadowvale Road at 9:30 a.m. on July 17. The Mercedes lost control during the race, collided with a white Ford F-150 pickup, veered off the road, and crashed into a tree.
The 15-year-old female driver of the Mercedes and a 24-year-old male passenger sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The pickup truck’s 44-year-old male driver and an 11-month-old baby suffered minor injuries in the collision.
The driver of the Lamborghini fled the scene but was eventually apprehended. Police have identified the suspect as 42-year-old Akil Gordon Heywood, who now faces charges including two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, failure to stop at an accident scene, and stunt driving.
