Toronto Police Hunt for Fortune-Telling Fraudster in Scam Worth Thousands

Toronto authorities are on the lookout for a man who has been accused of running a deceptive scheme by posing as a psychic and spiritual healer to scam a victim out of thousands of dollars. The individual, operating under the name “Babu,” allegedly used the guise of a psychic, fortune teller, and spiritual healer through a business named Indian Psychic and Spiritual Healer from April 2024 to September 2025.

The suspect reportedly preyed on the victim’s belief in the supernatural, employing rituals and threatening statements to persuade them that harm would befall them and their loved ones unless they continued paying for “spiritual protection.”

The alleged scam artist coerced the victim into parting with their money by guiding them through a series of instructions.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Gangadhar Babu, is the subject of a nationwide warrant for charges including fraud over $5,000, possession of proceeds obtained through criminal activity exceeding $5,000, and money laundering. Authorities have described Babu as 5-foot-6 with a slender frame, dark curly hair, dark brown eyes, a trimmed beard, and a visible gap between his front teeth. A photograph of the suspect has been made public.

Law enforcement suspects that there could be more victims of this fraudulent psychic operation and are encouraging anyone who believes they may have been targeted to come forward.
