In a corresponding roster move, infielder Lenyn Sosa has been placed on the 60-day injured list.
Despite being born in Florida, Taillon has strong Canadian ties as both of his parents are Canadian, and he has represented Canada twice in the World Baseball Classic.
The 34-year-old pitcher has faced challenges in his current season with the Cubs, leading to his designation for assignment on July 27 after struggling with a 5.92 ERA and a 1.355 WHIP in 15 starts.
Throughout his 10-year career, Taillon has maintained a 3.99 ERA and a 1.203 WHIP in 239 games, with the majority of his appearances coming from his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, and now the Cubs.
