A labour dispute involving over 4,400 WestJet cabin crew members has resulted in the cancellation of 88 flights at Vancouver International Airport (YVR). WestJet has temporarily halted its mainline operations while negotiations with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) stall.
Chloe Reynaud, a communications specialist at the Vancouver Airport Authority, stated that flights operated by WestJet Encore using Q400 aircraft have not been impacted by the labour disagreement. The 88 cancelled flights represent about 10% of YVR’s daily scheduled operations.
To support affected passengers, the airport has boosted staffing levels within the terminal to offer assistance and additional support during the disruption. Travelers are advised to check directly with WestJet for the most up-to-date information on their flight status before heading to the airport.
