Elderly Vancouver Man Brutally Attacked; Two Suspects Facing Charges

Last week, a violent robbery targeting a senior in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside has led to the arrest of two men.

The incident took place at around 9:15 a.m. on July 28 near East Hastings Street and Jackson Avenue. A 75-year-old man was accosted by a group while walking in the neighborhood. The attackers reportedly pushed him to the ground, assaulted him, and stole his belongings before fleeing the scene.

The victim was hospitalized with a head injury and bruises but has since been discharged.

In a bid to apprehend the culprits, investigators had shared video footage of the attack.

The first suspect was apprehended on July 30 by patrolling officers who identified him as a person of interest in the case. He was taken into custody without resistance.

On Sunday, a second suspect was arrested after the police responded to a report of an unwanted individual in a nearby residence. Upon further investigation, the officers linked the person to the robbery and made an arrest.

Vancouver police have charged 43-year-old Kurt Werner Steinhauser and 40-year-old Andre Joseph Brunet with robbery.

Both suspects are currently in custody, awaiting their bail hearings.
