During the festival, chaos erupted as gunshots rang out, claiming the lives of Shaquan Quashie, 25, and Cesar Vernaza, 20, while injuring five others. The subsequent police investigation led to the arrests of Jessiah Massaro-Gill and Lewis Downey on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and firearm-related offenses.
In a recent statement, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw emphasized the need for severe consequences for those who endanger public safety by resorting to violence. Following a search warrant operation that uncovered firearms, drugs, and cash, authorities have taken swift action to hold the suspects accountable.
