Authorities in Barrie are currently looking into a suspicious car blaze that occurred in the quiet Painswick neighborhood.
The incident was brought to the attention of Barrie Fire and subsequently reported to the police department. The fire took place in a parking lot on Esther Drive early Thursday morning.
Despite the flames being put out before police arrival at approximately 6:45 a.m., a vehicle was left completely destroyed. Inside the car, officials discovered a melted gas canister, adding to the mystery.
A local resident who witnessed the event mentioned hearing a loud bang around 4:20 a.m. and saw significant flames and smoke billowing from a nearby school parking area.
Further investigations revealed that the vehicle, identified as a 2015 BMW sedan, had been reported stolen from Brampton earlier that day. The rightful owner, contacted by authorities, confirmed the theft from his own driveway and still retained the only set of keys.
The case remains under active investigation, and the public is urged to reach out to the Barrie police if they have any valuable information regarding this incident.
