The Coquitlam RCMP Seeks Public Help in Belcarra Park Fire Investigation
The Coquitlam RCMP is seeking assistance from the public as they investigate a recent fire that occurred in Belcarra Regional Park. Authorities are reaching out to potential witnesses or individuals who may have captured video footage of the area on August 5 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in order to determine the cause of the fire.
Const. Ashleigh Daniels emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining the park, stating, “Anmore and Belcarra are strong, beautiful communities that take great pride in preserving their regional park.”
Police are urging anyone who was in the vicinity and observed anything suspicious, or possesses relevant video footage or information pertaining to the incident, to contact them.
Of particular interest are dashcam recordings, home surveillance footage, or cellphone videos from various locations including Sugar Mountain Trail, Crystal Creek Drive, Fern Drive, and others.
The fire, which occurred near the Village of Anmore, led to the evacuation of two properties and an alert for several other homes. However, the Metro Vancouver Regional District has confirmed that the blaze is now under control, with the evacuation order and alert lifted.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with investigators exploring the possibility of a downed power line as a contributing factor. Crews will continue to monitor the area for any remaining hot spots in the following days.
