Despite facing challenges in the polls, Jean-François Simard, the minister representing the Capitale-Nationale region, remains optimistic about the future of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ). He believes that predictions of the party’s downfall were incorrect and that under Christine Fréchette’s leadership, the CAQ has become known as the “party of hope.”
Simard expressed his confidence in the CAQ’s growing influence, stating, “Quebecers are paying more attention to the CAQ than ever before.” He emphasized this sentiment during a press conference in Lac-Beauport, where he highlighted the changing perceptions towards the party.
However, a recent poll by Pallas Data-Qc125-L’actualité revealed that the CAQ is currently in third place in voting intentions with 19 percent support. The party has experienced a six-point drop among French-speaking voters, placing it in a tight race with the Liberals.
Premier Fréchette, addressing the poll results, emphasized that public reception, rather than polls, is what matters most to her. She confidently asserted that there is a noticeable shift towards the CAQ in the political landscape.
Fréchette also criticized her opponents, highlighting the contrasting visions offered by the Liberal Party and the Parti Québécois. She positioned the CAQ as a party with ambitious goals and a clear vision for the future of Quebec.
During her visit to the Quebec City region, Fréchette announced three new candidates for the upcoming election. Among them, Christian Lachance, Nathalie St-Pierre, and Françoise Faverjon-Fortin will represent the CAQ in various districts.
With the provincial elections scheduled for Oct. 5, the political landscape in Quebec is set for a dynamic and competitive race, with the CAQ positioning itself as a strong contender with a vision for change and progress.
