Ontario’s Government to Invest $10.9M in Healthcare Training Programs
Ontario’s government is set to unveil a $10.9 million investment in various training initiatives on Wednesday, aimed at preparing workers for rewarding careers in the healthcare sector.
The funding, which comes from the sixth round of the Skills Development Fund Training Stream, will support 10 projects designed to offer specialized training, mentorship, work placements, and other career assistance to nurses, personal support workers, medical laboratory technologists, and other essential healthcare professionals. The goal is to benefit nearly 2,000 workers across the province.
Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development, David Piccini, emphasized the importance of building a skilled healthcare workforce, stating, “Protecting Ontario’s healthcare system starts with ensuring we have the skilled workforce needed to deliver care when people need it most.”

Despite past controversies surrounding the allocation of funds from the Skills Development Fund, measures have been put in place to enhance transparency and accountability. The projects chosen for the latest funding round have been scrutinized based on recommendations from previous audits, with a focus on long-term employment outcomes and disclosure of lobbying activities.
Moving forward, applicants will be required to report any engagement with registered lobbyists and consultants, and this information will be cross-checked against Ontario’s Lobbyists Registry.
In a bid to uphold integrity and ensure effective use of public resources, the Ministry has implemented new risk management tools and due diligence procedures to ensure that the selected projects align with the highest standards of accountability.
