Break-and-enter charges laid against suspect, Vancouver police say

A 40-year-old man is facing break-and-enter charges after being arrested in East Vancouver on Wednesday night, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

Police say the suspect was discovered inside a home near Grant Street and Victoria Drive while the homeowner was upstairs. When the victim came downstairs, she allegedly found the man actively gathering items from the residence.

The suspect fled after being confronted.

According to the VPD, the victim screamed when she encountered the suspect, prompting neighbours to call police. Witnesses provided officers with a description of the man.

With assistance from the VPD Canine Unit, officers located and arrested a suspect matching the description.

Police say some of the stolen property was recovered from the suspect and returned to the victim.

The suspect remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

“We’re thankful the neighbours promptly reported the incident,” Cst. Megan Lui said in a statement. “They provided information that helped our officers make the arrest.”
