Charges Filed in Deadly 2025 Lytton Crash Under Motor Vehicle Act

A tragic incident unfolded near Lytton last summer, leading to charges against a Williams Lake resident under British Columbia’s Motor Vehicle Act. The collision on Aug. 14, 2025, involved a black Ford SUV and a grey GMC pickup on Highway 1, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuries to four individuals. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames post-collision.

The BC Highway Patrol took over the investigation, eventually passing their conclusions to the BC Prosecution Service for consideration of charges.

Authorities have disclosed that on Aug. 6, 2026, Joel Chenier, aged 44, was charged with driving without due care and attention. Reports indicate that three of the injured and one of the deceased were passengers in Chenier’s vehicle.

Chenier’s court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 15.
