The City of Longueuil is in a legal battle to withhold the identity of the officer involved in the shooting of 15-year-old Nooran Rezayi, citing security concerns.
Following the tragic incident in 2025, the Longueuil Police Department revealed that they had received threats and reports of a potential contract on the officer involved circulating on social media. Legal documents have now unveiled this information to the public.
The family of Nooran Rezayi is seeking transparency and requesting the names of all officers present during the intervention that led to their son’s death to be disclosed to the media.
Longueuil authorities, as the employer of the police department, are advocating for the officers’ identities to remain confidential due to safety worries. They point to a disturbing social media post offering money for the officer’s demise as evidence of the severity of the threats. A minor has been charged with criminal harassment related to this incident.
Additionally, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) is also urging that the officer’s name be kept private to facilitate their ongoing investigation.
Only if the officer in question faces criminal charges would their identity be revealed to the public.
