Montreal Gears Up for World Cycling Championship with BIXI Bike Boost
With the World Cycling Championship event approaching later this month, Montreal residents are preparing for street closures, but BIXI has announced plans to enhance its service to accommodate the anticipated increase in riders.
BIXI, the popular bike-sharing service, revealed on Tuesday that it will be deploying more bikes to numerous stations in Plateau-Mont-Royal, Old Montreal, downtown, and around Mont-Royal Park – areas that will be impacted by traffic changes due to the event. Additionally, the company will offer drop-off valet service at 17 different locations, including several near the competition venue.
Anticipating the arrival of approximately 1,000 athletes and over half a million spectators between September 19 and 27, BIXI aims to facilitate seamless and convenient transportation during the championship.
Christian Vermette, the General Director of BIXI Montreal, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “The World Championships provide a great opportunity to highlight Montreal as a cycling-friendly city and to emphasize the importance of cycling in the daily lives of many residents.”
In a special gesture, BIXI monthly subscribers will enjoy an additional fifteen minutes, extending their typical 45-minute ride limit, to celebrate the cycling event.
