York Regional Police have announced that four individuals are facing a range of charges in connection with an armed home invasion that occurred in Richmond Hill. Authorities are actively searching for a fifth suspect linked to the incident, which resulted in serious injuries to one of the occupants.
The incident took place on Josie Drive, in close proximity to Yonge Street and Weldrick Road West, early on a Sunday morning. Responding to reports of a weapon at the scene, emergency services arrived to find that multiple suspects had forcefully entered the residence. During the confrontation, a gun was discharged, although fortunately, the victim was not struck by the bullet.
Upon fleeing the scene in a black Cadillac Escalade, the suspects were intercepted on Highway 401 in Cobourg, where evidence related to the invasion was confiscated. Subsequently, a female driver was apprehended while alone in the vehicle.
Further investigation led to the identification and arrest of three additional suspects. A search warrant executed at a residence in Toronto resulted in the seizure of money, a controlled substance, and ammunition.
Individuals facing charges include Terrebonne, Que., resident Georges-Junior Saint-Elien, Christopher Fils-Aime, Ivy Hewes, and Justin Johnson. While the four have been taken into custody, authorities are continuing their pursuit of the fifth suspect.
CityNews spoke with the occupants, a family of four who preferred to remain anonymous, confirming that they were unharmed. Neighbors indicated that rooms in the house were rented out, though the identities of those involved in the incident have not been disclosed by the police.
