The tragic death of an 85-year-old Burnaby senior, Chang Yong Cho, who was fatally struck by a stray bullet while inside his home on August 30, has left his family devastated. In a heartfelt plea to the public, Cho’s sons are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
Expressing their disbelief at the senseless act that took the life of their beloved father, the family described Cho as a man of gentleness and grace, deeply cherished by relatives, friends, and all who knew him.
Emphasizing the importance of justice, the family appeals to those involved in the incident to surrender to the authorities. The statement particularly calls upon the youth identified by investigators and their parents to take responsibility for their actions.
The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of August 30 when the Burnaby RCMP responded to gunfire reports in the vicinity of 18th and Humphries avenues. Despite their prompt arrival, the suspect’s vehicle had already fled the scene.
Subsequent investigations led the authorities to an apartment building on Kingsway near Britton Street later that day, where Cho was discovered deceased from a gunshot wound.
