The New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) has taken action against a man who was caught breaking into a local restaurant and attempting to evade capture from law enforcement last week.
In the early hours of September 5, two alert witnesses flagged down an NWPD officer to report a potential break-in happening at a restaurant near the intersection of 10th Street and Carnarvon Street.
Upon arrival, police discovered signs of forced entry and noticed a masked individual inside the establishment. Without delay, additional officers were called in to secure the area.
During the ensuing investigation, officers repeatedly called for the suspect to surrender. The NWPD utilized advanced resources such as a drone and a police dog to aid in the search.
Ultimately, after a thorough sweep of the premises, law enforcement found the suspect hiding in a cramped space above the kitchen. The individual was apprehended without resistance and charged with breaking and entering.
The accused is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
