Alert: Maple Ridge RCMP Expose New Scam – Thieves Posing as Bank Officials to Steal Cards In-Person!

The Maple Ridge RCMP are alerting residents to a concerning scam involving fraudsters attempting to collect bank or credit cards directly from people’s homes.

According to authorities, there has been a surge in reports of scammers contacting locals while pretending to be representatives from financial institutions or credit card companies. These imposters assert that the individual’s account has been compromised, creating a false sense of urgency to coerce victims into surrendering their cards.

Investigators have noted that these scammers utilize pressure tactics and personal account details to lend credibility to their fraudulent claims.

In a bid to combat this deceitful scheme, the RCMP emphasizes that legitimate financial institutions and credit card companies never dispatch representatives to residences to retrieve bank cards, credit cards, cash, or any sensitive financial data.

The police strongly urge anyone who receives such a suspicious call to immediately terminate the conversation.

“Fraudulent activities can surface unexpectedly,” highlighted Maple Ridge RCMP Constable Avinesh Bali. “Although it may be challenging at times, residents must stay vigilant and take basic precautions to safeguard themselves. Report any dubious behavior and reach out to susceptible friends or family members.”

Individuals who suspect they have fallen victim to a scam are advised to promptly contact their financial institution and notify the authorities of the incident.
