Police Wellness Check Turns Tense as Individual Barricades Self in Delta Home

A routine well-being check in Delta on Friday afternoon turned into a tense situation as an individual barricaded themselves inside a residence, prompting the response of the specialized Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Delta police were initially summoned to a residence in the 7000 block of Nicholson Road, located behind Scottsdale Mall, at around 2:25 p.m. in order to conduct a well-being check on a resident.

Upon police arrival, the situation took a sudden turn when the individual inside the residence barricaded themselves, leading to the deployment of additional police resources, including the Lower Mainland ERT, to safely address the escalating incident.

For safety reasons, Nicholson Road was temporarily closed to all traffic between 70th Avenue and 72nd Avenue while law enforcement worked to defuse the situation.

Ultimately, the individual was successfully taken into police custody by around 5 p.m., with no reported injuries during the incident.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the barricaded person incident is ongoing.
