The family of the renowned Canadian skyrunner and mountaineer, Kalie McCrystal, who disappeared on the Matterhorn in the Alps over two weeks ago, has stated that she will always be remembered in the mountains where she found solace.
In a heartfelt statement, her mother and sister revealed that all indications from the search efforts point towards the possibility of her falling while descending the majestic mountain.
The statement, shared by Amelia Boultbee, a close friend of McCrystal and a provincial legislator in British Columbia, commended the tireless work of the search and rescue teams, expressing their belief that every possible measure has been taken to locate her.
McCrystal was last sighted on September 1 during her ambitious quest to set a new mountain-running record in the Alps, navigating the towering Matterhorn which stands at 4,481 meters.
Despite the global mobilization of friends and supporters who went to great lengths to assist in the search for McCrystal, her whereabouts remain unknown, a heartbreaking outcome for her family.
Described as a remarkable individual who embodied a blend of unwavering determination and infectious joy, McCrystal’s absence is deeply felt in the skyrunning and Squamish communities, as well as beyond.
