In a recent incident involving a distraction theft, a man has been apprehended while the search is on for a female accomplice in the Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue vicinity.
According to police reports, the theft occurred on Aug. 30, just before 1:30 p.m. near a residence on Rockcliffe Boulevard and Alliance Avenue.
The victim, seated on his porch, was approached by a man in a white Chevrolet accompanied by a female passenger in the backseat. Allegedly, the female passenger enticed the man off his porch to the vehicle and proceeded to steal his jewelry, replacing it with counterfeit items. The duo swiftly fled the scene, leaving the victim unharmed.
Following thorough investigations, the male suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Roberto Carlos Ghiocel from Toronto. He was taken into custody on Sept. 11 and charged with robbery and involvement in a criminal organization. Ghiocel was slated to appear in court on the same day.
Subsequently, police conducted a search at an undisclosed location and in a vehicle, discovering a stash of fake jewelry.
The female suspect is currently at large, with no detailed description available at this time.
Authorities suspect there might be additional victims in similar incidents and urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the police or Crime Stoppers.
