Two women were taken into custody following a protest in the heart of Toronto on a busy Monday evening.
The Toronto Police responded to a demonstration near McCaul Street and Dundas Street West around 9:30 p.m., where tensions ran high.
According to law enforcement, a small group of protestors purposefully obstructed the road, causing disruption and hindering the movement of officers and police vehicles.
After repeated calls to disperse, one individual was apprehended for refusing to comply with orders to clear the roadway. During this arrest, a second person allegedly attacked the arresting officer in an attempt to disrupt the process.
Subsequently, Shelly Agius, aged 44, and Lily Phan, aged 49, both from Toronto, were taken into custody. Agius faces charges of mischief for impeding the lawful use of property and obstructing a police officer, while Phan is charged with assaulting and obstructing a peace officer.
Both suspects are set to make their court appearances on December 11.
