Montreal Explored: New Free Guided Tours Offered to Locals
Residents of Montreal are in for a treat as Tourisme Montréal introduces an exciting initiative to provide free guided tours, offering a fresh perspective on their own city. This innovative program aims to bridge the gap between tourism and local residents, fostering a deeper connection within the community.
From October 2 to November 1, Montrealers can embark on a journey to rediscover their city through a series of guided tours. Yves Lalumière, the president and CEO of Tourisme Montréal, emphasized that tourism is not just about hosting visitors but also about celebrating the vibrant city where people live, work, and thrive. The initiative aims to instill a sense of pride and belonging among residents while highlighting the mutual benefits of tourism for the community.
A recent study commissioned by Tourisme Montréal revealed that 82% of Montrealers take pride in sharing their city with tourists, showcasing a strong sense of hospitality. However, a small percentage of locals expressed concerns about certain aspects of tourism.
Operated by Guidatour, the inaugural edition of the program will offer nearly 60 guided tours in both French and English on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Participants will have the opportunity to explore iconic neighborhoods such as Little Italy, Jean-Talon Market, Old Montreal, Mile End, the Plateau, and downtown, each tour lasting approximately two hours with a maximum of 20 participants per group.
To secure a spot on the tour, a $10 deposit is required at registration, which will be reimbursed upon attendance. Additionally, an accessible tour will be available for individuals with specific needs, ensuring inclusivity and diversity.
Priority will be given to residents of the Island of Montreal, highlighting the community-focused nature of the initiative.
