Three outstanding journalists have been selected as finalists for the prestigious 2026 Jack Webster Awards, celebrating exceptional storytelling from Rogers Sports & Media’s CityNews and OMNI newsrooms.
Sarbraj Kahlon of OMNI News is a finalist in the Excellence in Multilingual Journalism category for his in-depth reporting on how concerns of extortion within Vancouver’s construction industry spurred policy changes at City Hall, a collaborative effort with Allan Chek, Kristen Johnson, and Sonia Kalra.
Rhea Santos is recognized in the Excellence in Feature Reporting – TV/Video category for her impactful CityNews Connect special that documented the journey of healing following the tragic events of Lapu-Lapu Day, a project co-created with Carol McGrath and Kristen Johnson.
Monika Gul from CityNews has been named a finalist in the Best News Reporting of the Year – TV/Video category for her comprehensive coverage of the Tumbler Ridge shooting and its aftermath, working alongside Allan Chek, Rob Abel, and Cal Wood.
The winners of this esteemed award will be revealed during the ceremony on November 2 at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Webster Awards, a platform recognizing outstanding journalism in British Columbia each year.
