Police departments across the country faced challenges with routing 911 calls on Thursday morning. While progress is being made in addressing the issue in some regions, reports suggest that the problem persists in other areas.
Amid the telecommunications disruption, authorities advised the public to use non-emergency phone lines to report emergencies until the matter is fully resolved. Thérèse-De Blainville police explained that due to a provincial telecommunications glitch, 911 calls may take an unusual route before reaching dispatchers, emphasizing that emergency calls are still being received and managed.
Various local police forces, including Quebec City police and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), acknowledged the impact of the technical issue on call transfers between 911 centers and police call centers. Despite the challenges, police agencies reassured the public that public safety remains their top priority and that they are working diligently to address the situation.
The disruption was not limited to Quebec, as Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) also reported intermittent 911 service disruptions in certain parts of the province. Similarly, police departments in New Brunswick, Toronto, Winnipeg, and elsewhere experienced routing difficulties with emergency calls.
While authorities are investigating the issue and striving to provide updates promptly, it is essential for the public to remain aware of alternative communication channels during this period of disruption.
