British Columbia Adopts Year-Round Daylight Time with New Time Zone Code
British Columbia has officially embraced year-round daylight time with the adoption of a new time-zone code. The Ministry of Citizens’ Services announced that the province has transitioned to Pacific time, now abbreviated as PCT for its time zone designation. This change replaces the previous use of Pacific standard time and Pacific daylight time, creating a consistent time system throughout the year.
In a significant move to maintain daylight time permanently, the B.C. government decided to forgo the practice of changing clocks back in November. This decision aims to offer residents consistency and minimize disruptions to sleep patterns and daily routines. Following the footsteps of Yukon and Alberta, Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew recently declared that the province would also switch to year-round daylight time.
The shift to a single time zone reflects a broader trend towards simplifying timekeeping practices and prioritizing continuity. British Columbia’s commitment to year-round daylight time marks a significant change in the region’s timekeeping strategy, aligning with the efforts of other provinces in Canada.
