Metro and Union Reach Agreement Ending Strike at Laval Distribution Center
After months of negotiations, grocery giant Metro and the union representing striking employees at the Laval Fruit and Vegetable Distribution Centre have reached a promising agreement to renew their collective contract.
The confirmation came from both the national trade union federation CSN and Metro management on Thursday, signaling a potential resolution to the strike that has disrupted operations at the key distribution center since March 30. The impact of the strike has been felt not only at the distribution center but also at grocery stores, the company’s head office, and transportation services.
However, the strike will remain ongoing until workers have the opportunity to vote on the proposed agreement. A crucial meeting is scheduled for September 24, where members will have the chance to review and cast their votes. The CSN has expressed its recommendation for workers to support the tentative agreement put forward by the union’s negotiating committee.
The primary sticking point of the dispute revolved around wage issues. The tentative agreement outlines a substantial 22% wage increase spread over five and a half years, with a notable 6% raise in the first year, retroactively effective from Sept. 17, 2025.
Amidst the ongoing labor discussions, Metro has assured customers that their stores are fully operational and stocked to serve their needs efficiently.
The union, which is affiliated with the Federation of Commerce and has ties to the CSN, advocates for around 550 workers at the center.
