Peel Regional Police have apprehended a man accused of being involved in a spree of 71 vehicle break-ins throughout Mississauga. The incidents occurred during the early hours of September 3 and 6, impacting various neighborhoods in the city. The suspect allegedly gained access to the vehicles by either breaking windows or exploiting unlocked doors, stealing valuables while causing extensive property damage.
Although no vehicles were stolen and they were unoccupied at the time, residents suffered significant financial losses due to the break-ins.
Cory Lowden, 34, with no fixed address, has been arrested and faces numerous charges, including multiple counts of attempting to commit indictable offenses, theft under $5,000, mischief over, and theft over $5,000. Lowden also had outstanding warrants related to fraud investigations and is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
Investigators believe there may be connections between the Mississauga incidents and similar crimes in Halton Region, Toronto, York Region, and Waterloo Region. Efforts are underway to collaborate with GTA policing partners to determine if Lowden could be tied to additional incidents.
